Wow I didn’t know Grenoble hosted the Olympics-Day 29- February 7th, 2018

I woke up today around 9 AM feeling very awake. I had French class at 1:30, and we were going to a museum today. I was determined to go to the gym, finish a blog post, and watch an episode of the Sopranos before that.

I went downstairs in my gym attire and ate breakfast. I am slowly starting to really like corn flakes. I briefly talked to Andre during breakfast, he saw my gym shorts and told me it was very cold outside. He was not wrong, it was absolutely freezing. The cold walk to the gym reminded me a lot of being in Boston.

I had a nice session at the gym today, I did shoulders and biceps. I ran into Nick when I was leaving the gym as well. After I got home, I took a shower and grabbed a salad from downstairs for lunch. I only ate two hours ago, but I wanted to eat before the museum trip. While eating my salad, I watched an episode of the Sopranos. After I finished eating, I practiced writing out the conjugations of a bunch of common verbs while watching my show. This was partially to study for a French quiz on Thursday, but I mainly wanted to improve my verb knowledge.

After my show finished, I packed up my backpack and headed to the office where our French class was planning to meet. By coincidence, I happened to run into Nick again as I was walking down the street and he was leaving his house. We met up with all of our classmates at the BU office. As a big group, we walked for about twenty-five minutes to the museum, which was at the bottom of the Bastille. We had a worksheet to fill out during this, but I elected to take pictures of the places on the sheet and do it later.

The exhibit we were seeing at the museum was all about the 1968 Olympics, or as they say in French, La Jeux Olympique . The people of Grenoble will never let you forget they hosted the winter Olympics, especially on the 50th anniversary. The exhibit was pretty cool and featured items and souvenirs from  the 1968 games.

Here’s some of the cooler stuff:

This was the first Olympic Games to have a mascot, its name is Schuss

Different places where events were held here, I’ve been to Autrans and ChamrousseIMG_7515.jpg

Would this be an attraction in France without a pretty church portion?? Seriously I don’t understand why this was here.IMG_7531.jpg

After the museum, we walked back to the BU office. Harry and I worked together to fill out the rest of the worksheet. I also used this time to book plane tickets to Amsterdam for March. My roommates from BU were coming to Europe for their spring break (I believe I played some role in this) and I am meeting them in Amsterdam for the weekend. It should be a fun time and I’m excited to see my friends.

I also took advantage of the guitar in the office to play for about thirty minutes. It feels really nice to be able to play again. After a while, I left the office to go to Monoprix with  Harry and get some groceries. I ended up getting some snacks, bread and cheese, and a meal. I also bought that random, single Brooklyn Lager that I found in Monoprix the other day. I couldn’t pass up on one of my favorite American beers.

I headed home and enjoyed some snacks before I was planning to meet Nick for dinner. While eating, I watched some Sopranos. I drank my Brooklyn Lager and never  have tasted anything so good. I have been drinking so much French and German beer that I had forgotten how good American beer could taste. Hops are pretty much non-existent in every European beer I have drank.

My beer and its perfect compliment, roasted chicken potato chips

I headed to Nick’s place, and we walked to La Natation for dinner. I had gone there for lunch two days before, but there food was good and I wanted more. We got there and grabbed a table. Fortunately it was still happy hour, so we each grabbed a beer. They also gave us a complimentary sausage and peanuts.

We went to order food, and quickly learned that this place was only a bar at night and didn’t serve diner. We were not super disappointed though, since the atmosphere of the bar was relaxed and very nice. We decided to go to Batman kebab a few doors down for food. We both got kebabs, which were good as always.

After eating our food, we wanted to check out another bar in the area since it was still typical happy hours. Whenever we go out in Grenoble, most of the bars are in this one area very far from Nick and I’s houses. We wanted to check out the bars close to us. We went to this random one called Le Subway. Nick and I both enjoyed Tequila Sunrises. The bars in this area are definitely more relaxed and have older crowds. They could be perfect for a more relaxed night out or as a first bar of the night. We finished our drinks and headed home for the night.

When I got home, I wrote up this blog and called it a night.
