Today started off poorly when I checked my phone upon waking up and found out that BU lost to Northeastern in the Beanpot finals. To be fair, one of our best players, Jordan Greenway, couldn’t play last night because he is in PyeongChang playing for the Olympic team. They need to win gold now to make up for it.
Since I didn’t have class until 1:30, I spent a lot of time relaxing this morning. At breakfast this morning, Anne-Marie was in the kitchen making beignets because it was Mardi Gras. I tried explaining that I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but she didn’t really understand. Either way, she gave me beignets to eat with breakfast, so I was a happy man.
My aesthetically pleasing breakfast today.

After breakfast, I facetimed my brother Andrew for around an hour. We text pretty often, but haven’t talked face-to-face in a while. It was nice to catch up for a bit.
Before heading to class, I made myself another chorizo and brie sandwich on my leftover baguette. I wasn’t super hungry so I cut it in half, saving the rest for the break between my two physics classes.
Big Hands or Small Sandwich?
I thought I gave myself enough time for the bus this morning, but it came two minutes early. One 100 meter dash later, I caught the bus at the last second. The rest of my commute went swimmingly.
I got to physics class 15 minutes early and spent some more time reviewing for our quiz today. Harry had made an useful quizlet that many of us in the class were using to study. Class went by pretty slowly today, but we ended fifteen minutes early for our quiz. My studying must have paid off because I felt good about all the questions.
Between classes, I ate my sandwich and the smell made Harry very jealous. I let him try a bite and I imagine he will be hooked on the sandwich life now.
In the beginning of relativity today, our professor said we will have a test after our winter break next week. This inspired me to pay extra attention in class today, and now I finally feel like understand Lorenz transformations. This was a topic I was struggling with for a bit the past two weeks.
After class, I headed home very tired of physics. I was going to go to the gym, but I had the beer pong tournament tonight. You may not see a correlation here, but if my arms were sore, my skills would definitely be affected. When there are fifty euros on the line, this wasn’t a risk I could take. On top of that, I don’t have class tomorrow, so I could go hard at the gym then.
I watched an episode of the Sopranos and before I knew it, it was time for dinner. Dinner today was interesting to say the least. We had a super American meal of cheeseburgers and french fries. The burgers were not that great to be honest, Anne-Marie put two slices of very thick and rubbery Kraft style cheese on them. I didn’t think this type of cheese existed in France and it definitely took away from the burger experience. Additionally, the tomatoes on the burger were cooked and hot, which was a bit weird. I don’t know how she cooked the fries, but they were delicious. Even without ketchup. Overall, it was interesting to see the French take on American food. I think I will stick to French food for the time being.
During dinner, I practiced my French a bit more and had some simple conversations. I asked where they buy their bread because I want to make sure I am getting the best baguettes. They told me that the bakery nearby closed down, so they get it from different places every day. We also talked about my trip next week.
For dessert, we had beignets once again with some type of cake. I don’t know the name of the cake, but it was jiggly and very good.
The Beignets

After dinner, I got changed and headed to the bar for the beer pong tournament tonight. They really emphasized getting there early on the facebook group, but I ended up still being a half n hour late. This didn’t matter because I still was one of the first people there. I signed up Harry and I’s team and got my “free” pint of beer. I talked to these other Americans there and we played a practice game.
Harry came a little later and we were absolutely killing it in all our warm up games. Soon the bar was very crowded and it was time to begin. I don’t have any real excuses, I was off of my game tonight. We were one of the last teams to go in the first round, so I had an hour to wait after warming up. It got down to one vs one cup, but we succumbed to the pressure and lost. I don’t feel too bad because the team that won the tournament last time also lost in the first round. Better luck next time I guess.
The beer pong tables before the bar got packed.

Around 11:45, I didn’t feel like waiting for the rest of the tournament, so I headed home and called it a night. I went to bed as soon as I got back.
