Watch Out for Black Cats and Broken Mirrors-Day 36-February 14th, 2018

I’m going to be honest, today was a pretty damn frustrating. This mostly had to do with some issues with my bank and cell phone company, but I will get to that later.

I had no class today, and had passed on skiing with my friends to save some cash for my big trip next week. I used this lack of planned activities to sleep in until 10 AM and catch up on some needed rest. I went downstairs and ate my usual breakfast.

After breakfast, I hopped right back into bed for some Sopranos. I am binge-watching the show pretty hard if you couldn’t tell by now. After the episode, I had plans to go to the gym, but ended up watching another episode.

I was going to pause the show halfway through to workout, but then I realized that the first US Olympic hockey game was on.

I spent the next two hours of my day watching the game. In between periods, I would watch brief sections of the Sopranos episode I was watching. By the end of the 2nd period, the US was looking really good in its match-up against Slovenia. We had a lead of 2-0 and Jordan Greenway, the BU player, scored one of those goals.

Between the second and third period, I ran downstairs to grab my lunch since it somehow was already 2 PM. This is where my day started going downhill. The US team started playing really sloppy and halfway through the 3rd, Slovenia scored their first goal making it 2-1. This was fine, we just needed to play smart defense.

With a minute and half left in the game, Slovenia pulled their goalie and used their extra man to score a goal and tie up the game. This forced an overtime of 3 v 3 hockey for the tie breaker. The US was playing super sloppy in OT and Slovenia quickly scored and won the game. Despite Greenway leading the game in shots and having a goal, the US coaches didn’t put him in for power plays or the OT squad. I am not usually the type to be mad about sports, but I was pretty damn angry. I threw my neck pillow I was using across the room when Slovenia scored.

I decided to use my frustration at the gym while I was working out. I was feeling better until a fatal accident happened on my way to the gym, I stepped in dog shit. This was very annoying and I head to spend five minutes cleaning off my shoe with a stick and some snow.

The gym went fine and I did biceps and shoulders, followed by an ab workout. After the gym, I headed to the supermarket to buy meals for the rest of the week. On the way there, my phones data and cell service randomly stopped working. I also I figured my phone was just acting up. At the store, I bought a salad and supplies to make four meals worth of sandwiches.

During my walk home, I saw a black cat next to a broken mirror. If I remember anything about urban legend, this is supposed to mean I have some bad luck coming my way. I think the legend is right.

The Cat and Mirror, I swear I didn’t make this up.

Shortly after, I realized that my phone was not actually acting up and speculated that Free mobile had shut off my cell phone service. I had gotten an email a few days ago saying that Capital One declined my phone bill, but I called them and figured the problem was settled.

When I finally connected to the wifi at home, I saw that I had n email from Free. I quickly popped the email into Google translate and my predictions were true. I figured this wouldn’t be a big deal, I could just log on to the Free website and pay the invoice.

Boy was I wrong. I spent two whole hours trying to fix the situation without any success. I should have known the black cat and broken mirror was a terrible omen.

I tried using my Capital One card again, that didn’t work. The charges just showed up as pending on my account and Free said it was declined. I texted my mom asking if I could use her card and venmo her the money. That didn’t work either, her card mysteriously got declined. I texted my sister and tried the same thing. Surprise, that didn’t work.

First I called Capital One thinking it was an issue with them. I don’t have any cell service, so calling them was difficult (Though technically even with cell service I can’t call US numbers). I ended up having to use this free wifi calling app called Dingtone I found. They gave me free twenty calling credits and I used those to talk to my bank. When I finally got through to a representative, I ran out of credits on the app and was forced to hang up. This day couldn’t get any worse.

I didn’t want to pay for more calling credits, so I spent 25 minutes watching ad videos and downloading stupid apps until I had enough. This was extremely tedious.

I finally got through to a representative again and he was very nice. After some security questions, we were discussing the pending charges from Free mobile and he said everything was good on his end. The charges were not getting declined because of fraud protection. This meant the problem was with Free Mobile.

I found the number for the support line and called Free. This is where I discovered that they do not have an English option on their support line. This was confirmed by Google as well. I tried really hard to listen to the French and hit the right numbers. I finally got to some message about invoices, but after that I was lost. Even if I could get to a representative, I doubt they could understand me. After two hours of trying to get my phone service back, I gave up. I would just have to wake up early and try my luck at the Free Mobile store.

I was left feeling very frustrated once again, and finally took a shower after sitting in my gym clothes for two hours. I had thought earlier, “It will only take ten minutes to fix my phone, I’ll just shower afterwards”.

Ha.

After my shower, I grabbed my sandwich making supplies and an apple for dinner. My apple tasted especially good, at least one thing was working for me today.

I ate my chorizo, ham, and brie sandwich and it was as delicious as it was yesterday. I ended up making a second one to have for lunch tomorrow at school. I put this in the fridge with the rest of my meat and cheese. Knowing my luck, I bet will forget my sandwich AND miss my bus tomorrow. We will have to see.

My Sandwich

I spent the rest of my night working a prelab assignment for circuits and writing this blog. Before bed, I watched an episode of the Sopranos. I needed this.

Hopefully tomorrow is a brighter day.
