Longest Lab of My Life-Day 51-March 1st, 2018

For some reason, I didn’t sleep too well last night and woke up really tired this morning. Granted 7:30 AM is earlier than normal for me, but I still went to bed at only 11:15 PM. I woke up a bit earlier than needed, so I had ample time to shower and get ready.

On another note, I put my phone in 24 hr time a while ago, and it has definitely grown a lot on me. It was very annoying at first since you have to subtract 12 every time, but its necessary because everyone uses the 24 hr time in Europe. It’s much easier to keep track of things like flights and trains when your phone clock matches the one in the station. Now I don’t even have to think anymore, I know 22:15 means 10:15 and 15:20 means 3:20.

There is one other random benefit to using 24 hr time. Back in the US, I occasionally would run into the problem where I set an alarm for PM time instead of AM by accident. For example, I had class at 8 AM. but accidentally set my alarm for 7:30 PM. This didn’t occur too often for me, but when it did, the consequences sucked. When you use 24 hr time, this isn’t even a possible situation. I am interested to see which time format I prefer when I return to the US.

Now back to my day. It snowed a bit last night and I had to walk through a wintery mix to get to class. It was annoying and wet.

I took this nice picture of my front yard. Don’t be fooled, this is annoying slush and not snow

Today I had differential equations, French, and a circuits lab. Differential equations was pretty dry as usual. I did my best to follow and reading the textbook yesterday definitely helped a bit. And by help, I mean make me feel less guilty about looking at my phone.

French went by pretty quickly compared to the three hours of it yesterday. We had a lot of exercises and role-plays to go through, and were kept pretty busy. After class, I stayed behind to ask a few questions about some grammar stuff. My efforts in class must be recognized by the professor, because she asked me if I felt the class was too easy for me. It definitely can be easy at times, but I always leave class with new knowledge making the class useful to me. I told her this and that I thought the class was fine, but three hours a week didn’t feel like an effective amount for me. That’s why I try to do some studying on my own.

After French class, I went with Harry to grab lunch. I got a lasagna from a little restaurant on campus called La Tab Verte.

Here’s a picture.

It was decent, especially for having eggplant in it. I usually don’t like eggplant, but I was hungry enough today to not mind. I ate in an empty classroom with some of my friends before lab.

Circuits lab was extremely long and painful today. We were studying transistors and their significant properties. This was a little cool though because the transistor was invented in Berkeley Heights, in Bell Labs. They even mentioned Bell Labs in our lab packet.

Despite this nice fact about my hometown, the lab took almost four hours to complete despite the three hour session. We had to do about five different graphs that were all very tedious and took a long time to get right. By the end, I was more than ready to go home.

I took the tram home, knowing I had a night full of relativity studying waiting for me. Because of this, I used the forty minutes before dinner to relax and type up most of this blog. Tomorrow would be a long day with my four classes and test. Hopefully it is less painful than my lab today.

Dinner was just Andre, Anne-Marie and me. Jessica was away in London for the weekend. I was feeling pretty good about my French because Andre asked me if I had plans for the weekend and I was actually able to give a decent answer.

The radio was playing during dinner and a new segment was on. They said something in French about London and Anne-Marie gasped and said “Jessica!”. I don’t the reasoning for this gasp, but it was randomly really funny to me.

For dinner, the first course was salad and this small pizza like thing with ham and potatoes. It was very good. The main course consisted of pork, mushrooms, and some weird, almost twinkie-like potato dish. These weren’t too bad either. The meal was finished with the usual bread and cheese then dessert.

After dinner, it was time to get into work mode. My relativity test was tomorrow and I really didn’t have time to mess around. I spent the next three or so hours studying.  I found a lot of helpful youtube videos online as well. This was definitely the hardest I have worked this semester. Luckily my other classes are much easier than physics.

With my 8 AM tomorrow in mind, I went to bed pretty much right after I finished studying. I did post this blog though.

One more tough day and I am free at last for the weekend. I am in dire need of some rest and relaxation.
