I really didn’t do anything today. Knowing I had nothing planned for today, I didn’t set an alarm this morning and slept in. I woke up around 9:30, but stayed in bed for a half hour. I eventually got up when I started to feel hungry.
Breakfast was exactly the same as I have every day, though I was able to get my coffee at really nice temperature this morning. My coffee is just made with an electric water heater and instant coffee powder. Despite being instant coffee, it is surprisingly decent. The only trick is timing the water heater. It automatically turns off when the water is boiling, but that’s too hot and I have to wait for it to cool down. Turn off the water heater to soon, then the coffee is lukewarm. I timed it perfectly this morning and to quote Goldilocks, it was “just right”.
I had an urge to be productive after breakfast and came up with the just the right idea. I would finish season four of the Sopranos. I laid down in bed and watched about three hours worth of episodes. Not only was the season ending really good, but I think I’m starting to develop bed sores!
My hunger stuck again, so I decided it was time for lunch. I started lunch with a fresh apple from the fridge. There is nothing I love more than a cold apple from the fridge. I decided to switch it up from normal pb&j, and made a peanut butter and nutella sandwich. Anne-Marie also randomly gave me a single hard-boiled egg while I was getting something from the kitchen. I ate that too and it was good.
My laundry from yesterday had finally dried, so I put it away and started to pack for my trip. My many trips in the past few months have taught me that bringing only a backpack can make your life much easier while travelling. Sometimes you can store bags at a hostel or somewhere else, but this isn’t always garunteed. I learned my lesson on this after carrying a super heavy duffel bag around Paris for a whole day. Safe to say I will only be bringing a backpack with me for the next five days.
After packing I hopped right back into my TV watching binge with two episodes of White Collar. I was feeling hungry soon after, so I made my typical rice, sausage and beans for dinner. It was delicious and I ate another apple with it. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, so two apples a day must grant me immortality or something.
When I finished cleaning up my dinner, it was almost 1:40 PM in Boston. That was the time I had my registration for Fall 2018 courses. Everyone is assigned a time based on the last digit of their student ID. I had the fourth time slot, so I was hoping to get most of my classes.
After some pump-up music to get my adrenaline pumping, 7:40 had approached and I rushed to add my classes. Everything was available except two of my discussion classes. I got lucky because someone dropped one of them a few minutes later and I was able to snag the last spot and a different section for the other discussion.
I am taking:
Energy and Thermodynamics
Fluid Mechanics
Mechanic of Materials
CAD and Machine Components
Anthropology Through Ethnography
I am particularly excited for my anthropology and CAD classes. I really haven’t had much opportunity to choose random classes that interest me and I’m glad I can take one on anthropology.
After doing my registration, I took shower and did some final packing. My flight is at 8 AM tomorrow, but the only bus I could get to Lyon before hand leaves at 4:45 and gets there at 6 AM. No trams run in the morning, which means I will have to walk to the bus station. It’s about a mile and a half, but not the worst. This is why having just a backpack is helpful. Still, I have to get up around 3:30 to give myself enough time. I can catch up on some sleep on the bus and flight to Italy.
With my short sleep in mind, I spent the rest of my evening typing up this blog and going to bed pretty early. I am excited to be in Sicily tomorrow!
