With my exams temporarily done for the time being, I had no desire to get up early today. This meant me sleeping in until 11 AM today. My agenda for the day was very simple: pack for London and go to the gym.
I took some time to really enjoy my breakfast morning after being rushed yesterday. Despite getting sick of French pastries, my croissant this morning really hit the spot. After breakfast, I watched the season finale of White Collar. I am going to break from the show for a bit focus my efforts on The Sopranos again.
After finishing the episode, I took some time to pack for London. I usually just bring a backpack when travelling, but I decided to treat myself and bring my duffel bag instead. If my loyal readers recall, I brought my duffel bag to Paris and ended up having a miserable time having to carry it all day. Since I am staying at a friends house most of my nights there, I don’t think this will be a problem.
Here is my itinerary for London. Tomorrow I have a bus to Geneva in the morning and a flight in the afternoon. I have double checked my bus tickets, so hopefully I won’t get screwed over again. My flight should arrive in London around 4:30 and will head to my hostel to check in and drop off my bag. I am staying in Brixton which is on the outer edge of the city. I’ll figure out something to do that night.
The next day Sam is going to pick me up and I’m going to stay with him and my brother for the next couple days. I am looking forward to this trip a lot.
Around 2:00 PM, I got changed and headed to the gym. I usually don’t go to the gym at this time and it was super empty. I was one of the three people there and didn’t have to worry about waiting for any of the equipment. Today I did leg day which kicked my butt (literally).
After the gym, I made a quick trip to the convenience store. I wanted to buy some food for my travel tomorrow since I won’t have time to really eat at the airport. I ended up just getting a box of cereal and some other snacks. I figured the cereal can go a long way and hold me over until I have some real meals later in the day.
Once I got home, I took a much needed shower. I just lounged around for a while and watched The Sopranos until it was time for dinner. I will have plenty of activities the next couple days to make up for my lack of it today.
For dinner tonight, the appetizer was something that reminded me of a loaded baked potato, but more French. The main course was risotto with beef and tomatoes. This was finished with the usual bread and dessert. I talked with Jessica and Anne Marie for probably an hour after dinner. We talked about a wide range of things, but it was nice nonetheless. I don’t come back to London until Sunday and Jessica returns to the US on Saturday. Tonight is my last dinner with her and realistically the last time I will ever see her in my life. I guess that’s why we all stayed after dinner to talk a lot more than usual.
After dinner, I gave Jessica my official goodbye. I told her it was a pleasure living with her and that I was very grateful for all her translation for me. See you in another life Jessica.
I got my official assignment for my internship today as well. The project is called the 12 Movable Bridges project which is an effort to fix and replace the mechanical and electrical systems of a bunch of bridges in the NYC area. The main focus at the moment is the Kosciuszko Bridge in Queens which is where I’ll be working. I’m excited about the work, though the thought of the long commute is a little scary.
To be fair, taking the train into Manhattan everyday last summer usually took at least an hour and a half each way. My drive to Queens would likely be less than that, which I guess is good. Either way I am putting in work towards my future career.
Thinking about getting up early and working everyday is really making me cherish my time here. People always ask me if I am ready to go back to the US, which I mostly am. Though days like this, where I can sleep in and not do anything, are something I will likely not have many of this summer. My past couple months have been super stress free and I want to try and continue this lifestyle into the summer if possible.
The rest of my night was pretty basic. I doubled checked all my packed clothes and typed up this blog. My bus is at 9:00 AM, so I went to bed a little earlier.
