Royal Wedding-Day 129-May 20th, 2018

I woke up around 8:30 this morning after a very restful sleep. Knowing that Sam and Andrew would want to sleep in a little later, I used this time to shower and write my blog for yesterday. I was glad to get this done because I was afraid I would get behind on them.

I finished writing around 10 AM and everyone was up. After a breakfast of cereal and banana, we were ready to take on the day. And by take on the day, I mean just chill in the house and not do anything. The Royal Wedding was starting right around this time. We didn’t initially intend to watch, but Sam’s mom and sister were watching and we joined them. I don’t know if being in England makes this more entertaining to watch, but interesting seeing the elaborate entrances, colorful guests, and ceremonies.

Sam, Andrew and I had a fun time making jokes and thinking of ways to make fun of the ceremony. I think people in England either love the Royal Family or love to hate them. We watched for the whole thing for about an hour and then had lunch. Sam’s mom made us a nice assortment of finger foods including chicken nuggets and various dips.

We helped Sam’s dad move out all the cushions onto the deck furniture and ate our lunches outside. This reminded me of being home and doing the exact same thing with our deck furniture. After lunch, we hung outside for a while and it ended up being a very nice day.

We hung out for a while in Sam’s room. Sam regularly DJs for events and has a mixing board. We played around with his for a while and Sam taught us how to mix songs. As you can imagine, I was terrible at this.

We had plans to go for a drink and get dinner. Sam’s brother was coming home for the weekend from boarding school and Sam wanted to wait for him to come home before we left. His little brother Max arrived soon and I introduced myself. We headed out shortly after to the nearby town of Guildford. On the way there, Sam drove us through the campus of his boarding school, Charterhouse. With boys in all white playing cricket and large stone buildings, it was pretty much what you would imagine an English boarding school looked like.

Afterwards, we headed into town and to this pub called the White House. We grabbed a nice table outside and all got drinks.

After hanging out at the pub for about an hour, we went to find dinner. We ended up choosing a dinner place called Guildford Burger Kitchen. Wanting to use the last of my British pounds, I got a burger with fries and a big milkshake.

Dinner was really good and we headed back to Sam’s house once we finished. We ended up hanging out with Max in Sam’s basement playing videogames for a while. This was Max’s first year at the boarding school and it was interesting to hear him and Sam exchange stories about their time there. As stereotypical as this may sound, it’s always fun to ask younger kids about “what’s cool” and other popular things for people their age. Max had bed time soon after, then Sam, Andrew and I hung out in the basement for the rest of the night.

We went to bed around 12 with plans to get up early tomorrow. Sam was nice enough to drive me to the airport.
